⁷ “Why does He speak like this? He’s blaspheming!^(A) Who can forgive^(B) sins^(C) but God alone?”^(D)

⁸ Right away^(E) Jesus understood in His spirit^(F) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?^{[a] 9} Which is easier:^(G) to say to the paralytic,^(H) ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’?^(I)
